Educational software packages

April 15th, 2021, 9:16 am

Hi all.

I like how these 'virtual blackboard' videos work, e.g. this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAf_aSIJryg

Can anyone recommend some cheap software with blackboard effect, voiceover and other presentational devices so I can start making videos like this?

Out of curiosity, what's the compelling reason for using this medium? It's so long-winded. (that video lasts an hour..)

How about this? It allows the presenter to be spontaneous and work out answers to questions posed in real-time.

But they seem to be popular.

?What is 'this'?

""This", namely, allowing the presenter to be spontaneous and work out answers to questions posed in real-time, was offered as a "compelling reason for using this medium".

Is it not excruciating to watch the formula being built up, symbol-by-symbol, converging to the punch line? Why not present the formula and then discuss it a-z?

i.e. do the fomulae off line in the background.

The particular example of the technology the poster chose was not a very impressive one. So what? That is not the point of the inquiry. The poster was asking about a web technology that, like any tool, can be well used or poorly used.

That's a good point. I like it.

But .. OP did not specify the requirements. It's like BREXIT.

I asked if anyone could recommend some cheap software with blackboard effect, voiceover and other presentational devices "so I can start making videos like *this*".

Turns out that 'this' was not a good example of the medium. But that was the fault of the presenter. I am interested in making *good* educational videos using blackboards.

Here's another https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNk_zzaMoSs

Again, don't worry about whether the material is presented well, or even whether it is correct. The question is how someone can do stuff like that.

[EDIT] This is one answer to my question https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TNkcgWpr0k (but NOT cheap).

Hello,

One way is is to use PowerPoint , maybe as part of an Office365 subscription.

There is an option to record the presentation, which can then be uploaded to YouTube (say).

This allows you to prepare some material if need be, or develop the tutorial from scratch.

Examples of both :

(Cartier divisors)

Hope this helps.

Some still go the old way.
Technical refinement: you're not even required to treat everyone like complete imbecile as Taleb does (all the time).

Taleb needs a bigger blackboard and speed up X 1.5

Though I realize now, you're simply asking for a device for recording and writing
If I wanted to keep it simple I'd just use https://screenapp.io/#/ and a paint program (correction, The bright side of mathematics, which looks a lot like your blackboard video, is probably JUST using onenote) to have the same effect as the video you posted. Maybe edit it a bit in adobe and than get it up on youtube as well. I could make an example if I can figure out how to upload to Youtube, if you would want that?
