Physicists, Stop the Churlishness

May 27th, 2020, 5:00 pm

https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/10/opin ... sophy.html

A KERFUFFLE has broken out between philosophy and physics. It began earlier this spring when a philosopher (David Albert) gave a sharply negative review in this paper to a book by a physicist (Lawrence Krauss) that purported to solve, by purely scientific means, the mystery of the universe’s existence. The physicist responded to the review by calling the philosopher who wrote it “moronic” and arguing that philosophy, unlike physics, makes no progress and is rather boring, if not totally useless. And then the kerfuffle was joined on both sides.

I prefer physicists to brawl with philosophers rather than muck about with finance.

Lambs in the midst of wolves.
Luke 10:3

Besides, the physicists are doing OK brawling among themselves.

Steven Hawking drooling at the Google conference - a good illustration of physics without philosophy.

physics is the foundation of all science, including math...

mathematicians, economists, biologists,  chemists are fiddling in physics when they talk about their own disciple..  but as physics is held hostage by mathematicians there is little hope...

what to do? robotic farming until the crisis is over?

A churlish statement. Mathematicians are only trying to help.

My apologize, I forgot the many(?) kind hearted mathematicians, my view was biased from stepping on the toe recently of one borderline evil mathematician (dont worry, no one here), and if the central limit theorem holds true then possibly even this mathematician good...

Some of my best friends are mathematicians. Most are normally distributed.

"Some of my best friends are mathematicians. Most are normally distributed."

yes, those Judo-mathematicians, soft landing for Judo-mathematicians do not mean people with long break from judo think their throws feels like soft landing...reminds me I felt of a ladder this month, and strangely ended in a backward roll...no injuries, just some stiffness, skull intact (I think).

"Most are normally distributed."

yes I am aware off their familiar body shape!

I sometimes have a drink withe friends, It happen when they have too much vino their glass fall. By reflex I can catch it before it smashes. Makes a big impression, what?

Speaking of hard break fallsImage, here's me floating through the aether in 1975 on the cricket pitch where George Fitzgerald had his contractions. O, what a fall was there, my countrymen! Then I, and you, and all of us fell down, Whilst bloody treason flourished over us.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
