Re: Hyperinflation

October 24th, 2023, 6:05 am

Having seen yet another car accident in London I was just about to post in the Stupid Clock thread about the inevitable increase in insurance. Anyway, Sky News beat me, over 40% increase in one year.

So add stupidity to the causes of inflation.
The rise of EVs? Much more expensive to fix.
Worst business on earth. Does best the ukulele business by a small margin. And we didn’t commit.

But like I said. We have a mental Illness. We believe slow growth 2024. Consumer cyclicals are murdered. Including us. Yet we retain mental illness in entrepreneurship.

Wilmott is my teacher. I always admired the man. He’s a brilliant mind. But I like to get into fights with him. Over dumb stuff.

Not inflation.

Because we are using the Fed’s PCE ex energy and shelter.

I like to argue with him on dumb stuff like. HYPERIBFLATION

If we get to 2% ex housing shelter & energy on Core PCE. we are don’t.

Sure. It’s higher for longer. But. It’s going to break something. 24 months.

Caused by wars, socialism, viruses...

Discuss!
Look. I realize you all hate me for playing devils advocate. But Paul. There’s inflation. And hyperinflation. And a recession fixes that. I’m not happy about it. I’m a human being with emotions. However. We are 1998 30 year yield gilts. —- now let’s look at the forward. P/E FTSE.

🫶. I love you guys. All of you. But I won’t put my money to work in you today.

Jackson hole. Powell was clear. PAIN IS AHEAF. have you felt pain yet? I would argue most of us have not.

He said. He’s going to let the market decide the long Bond yields.

He also didn’t deny a December 12.5 bps hike.

He said. DATA DEPENDENT. with long and variable lags.

I love Paul. —- but your London Elite car insurance is just bad subjective qualitative data.

Most Londoners don’t have car insurance. Because. A car is a 20% wealthy income luxury. And even the 20% have no parking.

So if you’re my LP. I’m writing a calm letter to you all. Expect volatility. 24 months. And then expect us to be healthy. And aggressive when it matters. We are wealth managers. Not oracles. But we have 100 PhD’s in the pipeline. And they all are saying. “I don’t know.”

Someone has to make a decision. We are going with slowing growth. We look at Baltic Sea and container freight costs. And we cross check it with supply chain analysts. We also do the lead and lag reports. And we follow every data point.

Redemption. Season is up now —- I have a good intuition. And I come from a place where they kill your family if you lose their money. So I’m not blasé about it like your average societe genérale derivatives trader.

Saw article about this today, no mention of EV. (And I don’t own one anyway.) Costs generally rocketing but also big increase in number of people driving without insurance.

Such people should get immediate driving ban, force them onto public transport. Every little bit helps the environment! (And also any other bad/illegal drivers.)
