I agree that explaining the gender pay gap is not as simple as comparing median wages, and it's probably partly due to women combining traditional roles in families with their professional work. That's why the father of my child will need to have the "innate preferences", as ISayMoo called it, to changing diapers :-)

I have read just enough Ibsen to appreciate the complications of staging Peer Gynt. As for the earlier diaper-changing discussion, that is actually a relatively brief period that does not necessarily rank all that high in the ways in which parenthood complicates (and enriches) your life.
