That is one history (and anatomy) lesson that I’d be happy to unlearn! There is a Brexit metaphor in there somewhere, I’m sure.

I think I read somewhere that the Cummings/Johnson regime was going to start negotiating with Barnier one of these days. But maybe it was going to be after Thanksgiving, or the day before Black Friday, as it would be known locally.

It now seems increasingly unlikely that England will make any headway on a trade agreement with the US, regardless of who wins the election. By promising to violate the Good Friday agreement they have already alienated the Democrats, and by now categorically rejecting chlorinated chickens and hormone treated beef they have ruled out a discussion with Republicans. The latter, hopefully, being largely irrelevant. This feels like a case of trying to shoot yourself in the foot and accidentally blowing off your balls.

Rules of origin: Why are Percy Pigs a headache for M&S?

https://www.bbc.com/news/55648201

The boss of M&S was using Percy Pigs as an example of a situation in which it was not yet clear whether a tariff needed to be paid. The sweets are manufactured and packaged in Germany and then shipped to the UK - no tariffs are payable because of the trade deal.
They are then taken from the M&S warehouses and exported to stores in the Republic of Ireland, which is part of the EU.

Now, this is the complicated bit. Because they have left the EU and not been processed enough to count as being made in the UK, it may be that a tariff needs to be paid to get them back into the EU, despite them having been made in the EU in the first place.
If they had been unpacked and put on a cupcake, for example, there would be no tariff because they would have been transformed, but just storing them in the UK is not enough.

Sky confirms the loss of 40 channels and radio stations for customers in Ireland

"This is down to the fact that these stations did not wish to obtain an Irish/EU licence post-Brexit and instead chose to be removed."

What is important for both sides? Will there be enough time?

More content for a change, less rants. Gracias.

I think fisheries is smoked screens, a red herring and a cod. To whom will UK sell its fish to in the event of oversupply?

And what about chlorinated (oops, I mean chlorine-washed) chicken?

I heard that majority of the agreement was copy and pasted from prior agreements and was absurdly outdated. For example, the agreement mentioned Netscape and other outdated items like Mozilla Mail.

"The text is full of acronyms, and it perhaps needs more of a lay person's explanation to define the requirements."

Same old story; RTFM

" Cod in Dogger Bank; UK gets 60%, NL gets 40%" Easy.

Requirements analysis 101, duh.

As the trading statistics for various financial markets start dribling in (EU stocks, EUR swaps), it’s becoming increasingly evident that the City got the short end of the stick (I’m not going to say where they got it). But at least UK fisheries are doing well. What? They aren’t? Actually, they weren’t all that important in the first place...

You're both arguing with the voices inside your head again! (Although it is a bit freaky that you are hearing the same voices.)
