The rapid vaccine development and distribution, at least in the US, has been one of the success stories of the pandemic. Now the Biden administration and the WTO is trying hard to wreck things by stealing the associated intellectual property.  I suspect a year from now, we'll see this misguided effort had zero effect on supplies. But it will be remembered by investors when the next promising biotech company wants to raise startup money.
What about nationalising Pfizer?
Yeah, that would have been the proposal if Bernie Sanders had been elected.
In any event, maybe Angela Merkel can shut down this IP confiscation idea.

Let's focus on the cash flow ("follow the money") and remove the emotional element.

Big Pharma's research is done by universities funded by taxpayer's money. And then they buy a postbox (empty) company and pay no tax on profits using the 2nd generation Irish-Lux-Dutch sandwich construction. A riskless investment. Does not compute.

Just crossed.

Lots of issues. First, commercialization of academic research is not that easy. It took Moderna 10 years to finally have a profit. Why do you begrudge them that profit? Second, universities are becoming increasingly corrupted by the left, even in the sciences. At the Univ. Of Calif, new hire applicants must first pass a political test before their academic qualifications are even considered. I want the best scientists to be able to leave to a viable -- and less political --  commercial sector.

Healthcare in the US has lots of issues, but the pandemic has highlighted lots of good qualities, too: innovation, the ability to manufacture at scale, the ability to deliver logistically, a dense pharmacy network, etc. I don't trust a nationalized health care industry to deliver.

Your words. What gave you the impression I begrudge them? My point is they get cheap labor and they don't pay tax. And nationalisation is not needed.

And "universities" could be a whole new thread. But irrelevant.

Well, you were the one who raised nationalization. If you just want them to pay more tax, I'm sure Biden will deliver.

I don’t know about in India, but here smearing yourself with cow dung would be supportive of social distancing.

The universities topic could be quite an interesting topic to hear your opinions on. In Denmark the identity politics and socialist politics game is starting to manifest on the universities. I'm very satisfied that I study maths and that those issues are like rumours and issues going on in the humaniora camp.

Also I can get why Indian doctors might need to warn about cow dung not helping. Some indians still believe cows are holy and representations of their gods. Not all, of course, but some...
CBCA->CMSA->FMVA->Ba.Sc.Math-stat->CFA1,2,3->CISI->FRM->CQF->IFoA->than what?
The goal is to write all three and four letter combinations and try to make sense of it.

@Copenhagentolondon
Re universities, here is an account of the mandatory political test that is now applied first for Univ. of California faculty applicants. This is from an excellent book, "The Breakdown of Higher Education" by John M. Ellis, which I highly recommend. Ellis is emeritus prof. (and former dean of the Graduate Division) from UC Santa Cruz. (I did a post-doc there).
