And they probably got something on him, beyond his deep desire to build hotels in Jeddah.
let me guess, you think he paid a couple of hookers to urinate on the bed Obama slept in in Riyadh and MBS filmed it?
I hear it involved Melania and a camel.

The clown is sucking up to the clown prince bigly! A fight broke out, and Khashoggi accidentally died. Never mind our earlier lies, believe this lie!

These are decisions that politicians have had to make since the dawn of time. And not something we ordinary folk have to experience. In the great scheme of things one more death is not all that important.

Now the Saudis could cave in to pressure from the west, change their whole way of life, start eating burgers and wearing baseball caps. But we wouldn’t want their mediaeval ways taking over the west so why should they want the baseball caps? Are we in the west so arrogant as to think we are right about everything?

Alternatively every incident we don’t like could be magnified into sanctions, stopping arms sales, etc. Followed by Russia filling the vacuum. I see a lot more deaths in that scenario.

A face-saving solution plus some behind-the-scenes telling off is probably the best solution.

It’s just the old “I didn’t cheat it was just a drunken kiss” that no one believes but keeps the family together.

It's not just about this particular guy. It's about two other things:
1. the genocide in Yemen carried out by the Saudi-led coalition
2. abuse of the extraterritorial status of the embassy, though this is between Turkey and Saudi Arabia

Isn't it ironic that the US establishment was OK with the Saudis slaughtering tens of thousands of civilians in Yemen (using Western bombs), but when the Saudis killed one of the US establishment guys, they got upset.

Having played a bit of poker recently, I can report that, in real life, events with an ex ante probability of 8% or less actually happen. And usually when you least want them to happen. Of course, the benefit of card games is that the conditional probability of most relevant events is well defined and can be calculated, whereas the probability of something like who wins the next election is inherently subjective and virtually impossible to rationally declare "wrong" ex post (unless it was 100/0). Would 51/49 somehow have been less wrong?

The NYT made that prediction based on their polling.
If their polling was correct but a lot of people changed their minds at the last minute, your argument might have some merit.
But we know (and the NYT knew) from the Podesta emails that their polling was wrong, and wrong deliberately, because of oversampling certain democratic constituencies. The election result was in line with the accurate polls produced by (from memory) 3 organizations: Rasmussen Reports, IBD, LA Times,

The toadstool-in-command is so gung-ho on arms trades, hotel deals, and other emoluments from the Saudis that he is rolling over and letting MbS carry out his killings with no consequences. Which should not be surprising.

Can't help but notice that Obama mastered the art of turning a blind eye to human rights violations when he normalised relations with Cuba despite the fact that the Cuban regime continues to violate human rights and political freedoms on a massive scale.

Well, they were wrong.
They didn't take contextual thinking into account, imho: she was better than Trump, but she was a awful Democratic candidate - or simply an awful candidate.

in 2011 (on obama's watch) the saudis beheaded an abused maid in the street, and obama turned a blind eye
