He succeeded in making "can we cancel the election" an acceptable topic of discussion.

I think we should just cancel everything and wait for The Rapture.
BTW, the 1991 version with Mimi Rogers and David Duchovny is superb!

That would probably appeal to a majority of remaining Trump voters.

In late breaking news today, even James Murdoch is giving up on the Trump/Fox News/WSJ story line and has resigned from the board of News Corp.

Would that be the first or second rapture?

I vaguely seem to remember him as having some credibility. It must have been in the 90’s.

Yeah, he was regular on the old PBS news hour with Jim Lehrer, if you ever watched that.

There's two? In the movie there was only one -- I get all my theology from Hollywood.

I did, occasionally, although was more of a regular Tom Brokaw viewer.

Hmmm ... seems a bit like a shakedown:
Trump Says U.S. Should Get Slice of TikTok Sale Price
By Trump's logic, since virtually every acquisition seems to require some kind of regulatory sign-off by the Feds, I guess they could ask for a slice of every deal!

Well, better that than a new transaction tax on every trade, as some candidates have proposed.

Yeah, this is a mugging. This goes beyond taking a slice of a deal in exchange for approving it, since the motivation for the deal in the first place is Trump’s promise to make the asset worthless if it remains in the hands of ByteDance.

I’m not a huge fan of transaction taxes either, but mostly because those proposing them tend to vastly underestimate the behavioral changes they tend to induce (think CFDs and spread betting in the UK). I could otherwise live with a tiny bit of sand in the gears of the HFT machinery.
