In NYC, St Patrick's Day is engaged in a long standing annual competition with SantaCon for the greatest extent of public drunken debauchery in the streets. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the color of the attire.

You won'r see that carry on in Armagh.

Uncle 'NYC' Cuchulainn was invited every year to play the bagpipes with NYPD pipers.

Ireland’s strange decision to join the French commonwealth

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2019/04/ire ... l-outpost/

It is beyond question that the Irish would be model members of the ‘family of nations’. Ireland punches way above its weight in international diplomacy. It has an impressive range of organisations which would plug straight into the Commonwealth’s global network. Its younger citizens would win hatfuls of medals at the Commonwealth Games. Thousands of its gallant sons already lie in beautifully maintained Commonwealth war graves around the world.

Sweet.

I was just in Dublin yesterday and naturally discussed Brexit with a taxi driver. He was very smart but he had fallen for all the fake news, hook, line and sinker. He seemed to think that unemployment in the UK was rising, wages falling, etc. etc. Even the Guardian grudgingly admits the opposite (Despite Brexit)...https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... y-earnings . It was a bit sad. NB I have deliberately given a link to an anti-Brexit news source!

On the other hand, according to some EU body (see Cuch's link) 99.7% of people in Ireland simply adore the EU. A similar fraction as people in North Korea who love Kim Jong-un. Makes one wonder...I'm inclined to think a) rigged, b) p hacking, c) clever poll wording or d) and this is my personal favourite, 90% of people in Ireland are from Eastern Europe. I think I met just two Irish people during my stay.

If he has an Irish passport, then he is Irish. Period. Compare with the shambolics in UK.

Never mind Irish people; but where will you meet a real Dubliner in Dublin?

e) Once bitten, twice shy. Divorce is a pain. Is it too late to rejoin the Commonwealth? 90% of people are ManU or Liverpool supporters..Maybe we could give them dual citizenship, what?

Paul,
Apart from not having met as many Irish people as you would have liked, was it notwithstanding a pleasurable visit?
