it's a loan-word from arabic and has been popularized by hip-hop. Few if any in Europe would have given it that meaning at the time the song was released

What an irony. The UK pushed NZ economy into recession when it joined the EC in the 1970s, by being forced by the EC rules to ditch its existing trade agreement with NZ. Now NZ is coming to UK's rescue.

There is a large extrapolation about the verb "niquer" in french. It is a shotname of "forniquer" and it exists in french dictionary since 1890.

The song "Dominique" was on top of charts on non french-speaking countries. The singer didn't receive any royalties from the hit.
She committed suicide partly because of her money problems.

The "Trésor de la Langue Française" says it originated in military slang in the 1890s, especially soldiers stationed in Algeria,  which was then French
It's from the Arabic root n-i-k "to have sex; to penetrate"; compare ناك (nāk)

Well, "nique" is a slang in North Africa. The term for "fuck" in arabic is "ينكح"

You are right. The first time I saw this ads was around 1996-1998 in a TV broadcast called "culture pub".

Yes and no. The country as a whole was under French occupation. But the French settlers created their own communities and commerce which didn't exist before. So there was something you could call "French Algeria", which couldn't co-exist with "Algerian Algeria", and had to be terminated.

Without j at the beginning, I think - what you wrote means "knees" according to Google Translate...
BTW, GT was attacked by Russian trolls who replaced "thanks" in Ukrainian (Дякую) with Muskovite Спасибо!

I was using "french" in the sense of "belonging to france."
French Algeria
Your argument seems to be, "it didn't belong to france it belonged to france."
At one point,  algeria was actually part of france, in the sense that it was an overseas department, although obviously not part of metropolitan france
