Re: Boris Johnson - the last 100 days

I find it odd that those people who say things are getting worse because of climate change, population growth, plastic in the ocean, are the same people who laugh when others say that some things were better in the past. But then there are very large sections of society who don’t think very deeply, if at all!!

Max Hastings wrote this rather thoughtful (and long) piece in the FT today, and the one message I took away was a quote from Walter Bagehot to the effect that the essence of Toryism is enjoyment. "The way to keep up old customs is to enjoy old customs. The way to be satisfied with the present state of things is, to enjoy that state of things." You do seem to fit that bill. Unless, of course, "the present state of things" is to be interpreted as the actual present state of things, as opposed to the state of things in the wonder year of 1971.

Some things are better now. Some were better then. Simples!

I'm not one for black and white thinking in real life. But if someone confidently says "Black, without a doubt" then I will have the knee-jerk reaction "You are soooo wrong, it is white." Can't help it.

Most were based on absentee landlordism and plantations. Ensured  continuous cash flows with very little risk.

But the real problem is the incompatibility  between the products of the Oxford Union and those of the College of France. Boisterous bluster versus dogged detail.

It is becoming more and more clear that they have no plan, the party of the 1st party that is.

My local MP, a Conservative, is brilliant. He is about 12 years old, and hasn’t once tweeted about Brexit. He’ll probably be the last man standing.
I agree. Young people should be seen and not heard, what?
Now, what I want is, Facts. Teach these boys and girls nothing but facts. Facts alone are wanted in life.

It's a religion, Paul, called progressism and probably the ruling one. Progressists believe that Tuesdays are always better than Mondays. Never try to convince deeply religious people.

So, non-religious people are free from such afflictions?

You're thinking of yourself? You're not a non-believer. You believe in newpapers too much.

He gets his news from RTE which has a direct line to God.
