I don't understand The Telegraph

August 29th, 2019, 1:35 am

So you have this newspaper that loves BoJo, Farage, Trump and the Rees-Mogg. And then they print (or display as it may be) this kind of story:   https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/08/28/climate-change-melts-billions-tons-ice-greenland-fifty-years/. I'm suffering from cognitive dissonance. They sort of recognize science, but not its political consequences? Or whatever sells papers? That I can understand.

I bought a copy a few weeks (Daily Telegraph( ago. The editors use too many adjectives. Like Bill O'Reilly and Fox News.
One of my Etonian friends told me that a high % of the editors were hedgecated at Eton.

The Guardian is the same: first they cry about climate change and then angrily complain that there's no social benefits for 2+ child.

How dare people make money? And run businesses. That employ people who also make money? I give 110% of my income to good causes. (Please, pretty please, will people like me now?)

That's very true. Socio-economic inequalities have gone mad in the UK, e.g. my petsitter wears nails more expensive than me! We should be more like Norway.

I remember my first set of false nails, and the color I painted them. Jokers Wild it was called. I can’t remember the brand. My next was Damson Crush, Revlon I think. But I never used false nails after that one time. My favorite for a long time was Jealous Jade. I only paint my nails rarely these days.

And I can’t stand painted toenails.

Seriously, I paint my nails with strengthening varnish regularly. It costs me circa £10 per year and steals just a few minutes a week. Her nails must be done by a professional manicurist. I was passing by a salon yesterday, had time and decided to spoil myself a bit (and sooth my curiosity). I was filed, "plastered" and painted for almost an hour by a nice chatty Chinese, robbed of 600 NOK and left with huge claws like shovels. I'll have to get rid of it, because I won't be able to type on a keyboard, but otherwise I'd have to pay half the amount each week! PhD, long working hours, constant travelling and it doesn't pay as well as petsitting??

Sorry, I was trying to make a subtle point of grammar. "my petsitter wears nails more expensive than me" vs "my petsitter wears nails more expensive than I (do)"

Neither is correct--> pet sitter. Only mainland Europeans conflate their words. The exception is politicians.
