I read The Republic years ago. That was when I still had respect for "thinkers." Now I don't have respect for thinkers, they rarely tell me things I don't instinctively know already. They just give them fancy names. My respect is saved for people who run small businesses, who have to deal on a daily basis with all the nonsense that the thinkers impress lazier minds with.
Well I have to deal on a daily basis etc., but I still leave some time for genuine thinkers.
There are worse distractions and energy drains than ancient philosophers and early political/moral “scientists.”
Just think - they did not view it as a science in those days - politics was a branch of moral philosophy.
