You can give all your money away first and still form a collective.
I'm not a sucker, thanks.

Is there any Socialist who will unilaterally practice what they preach?

We have a winner!

I'm going with so far:

  1. There are many rich, privately educated and intelligent idiots
  2. What they say in public and do at the ballot box are two different things

But I suspect that there are more explanations.

There's a beatiful story about Bertrand Russell by Paul Johnson:

As for the charge that Russell, like his friend Williams-Ellis, was both a rich man and a socialist - why didn't either of them give their money away? - Russell had a stock answer: 'I'm afraid you've got it wrong. Clough Williams-Ellis and I are socialists. We don't pretend to be Christians.

Do you understand Paul? Christians may give away all their money. It rarely happens but happens. Socialists give away all your money only.

Giving away all your money many be a problem for you but not for me. As a socialist I may have both - be a benefactor and keep my cash!

I'm told, I haven't checked, that there is a box on the HMRC tax return where you can voluntarily pay more tax.

I think I'll file all this with "I'm going to open up my house to migrants" and "If Boris Johnson becomes Prime Minister I'll leave the country."

If I have any philosophical leanings it's "You do what you want and leave me alone." In contrast to the Socialist "You do what I want, and we'll see how it turns out."

Any personal insights? (And if possible ones that can’t be countered with “So why don’t you get the ball rolling by giving away all your money?”)
You are NOT (rich, privately educated, etc.) so why do you vote TORY?

This is what the Marxist-Leninists don't undesrtand.

The Tories destroyed mining in the 1980s but the North still votes Tory even though the Morpeth motorway was built by the EU.

Only serious responses will be entertained.

I think it is a middle-class kind of thing. More anxiety and navel gazing.
Concerning money: you can't take it with you.

I am about to take an extended vacation from here, but before I go, I will assign some reading for all of you Tories, Lib Dems, Christian Right, Louche Left, and Anarchists.  Any who call themselves Socialists should already have a good feel for the history and definitions...

But anyone can try this - you may even dig deeper, as there are many references!

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy - Socialism

and nice that it come from Stanford, the school with the highest tuition in the entire United States, I believe, at least some time ago.

So, you can mull that over too.  : D

From the introduction:

"Socialism is a rich tradition of political thought and practice, the history of which contains a vast number of views and theories, often differing in many of their conceptual, empirical, and normative commitments. In his 1924 Dictionary of Socialism, Angelo Rapport canvassed no fewer than forty definitions of socialism, telling his readers in the book’s preface that “there are many mansions in the House of Socialism” (Rapport 1924: v, 34–41)."

Enjoy!

Oh yes, there are many theories, building cathedrals of words is easy. And what about practice? I's the real world what counts. There is only one practice of socialism, I'm affraid.

Lower taxes. Less interference. Tories don't want to destroy the education system (after their children have finished with it, obvs). No open-door immigration to people who will take your jobs. Fewer 'theories' about what should work but doesn't. Importance of the family.

But if your most pressing concern is opening up women's toilets to trans then the Tories are probably not for you. (But then you'd be rich and privately educated, although perhaps not intelligent.)

I've looked at that video. Can't see anything to disagree with! But for every sensible comedian you will get 100 more famous virtue signallers!
