If the Brussels won't come to Boris, then Boris must go to Brussels.

Labour did their job to make it fail too. What idiots hired politicians to this job?

The Fisheries privilege is a charter issued by Charles II granting rights to 50 fishermen from Bruges to fish in British coastal waters in perpetuity. It was considered to be a demonstration of gratitude for his exile there from 1656 to 1659. The charter was forgotten for many years but has regained prominence on three occasions. The exact status in law of the agreement remains open to this day.

Will Boris renege?

That new UK Turing exchange programme. Quintessential.

The "Gordon Welchman" programme is a better name. Of course, no one knows who GW is.

In an interview with US television on Sunday, Boris Johnson characterised Donald Trump’s impeachment and acquittal on a charge of inciting insurrection against his own government as “toings and froings and all the kerfuffle”.

Borissm at its wishy washy best.

I’d chalk that up to his Eton and Oxford roots. And a deep desire not to actually say anything, because saying out loud what he believes would undermine any ideas he may have to nurture “the special relationship” during the next four years.

I think he put it very well, and diplomatically.

I'd say that almost everyone (present company excepted!) thinks that the events made almost all American politicians, across the spectrum, look unpleasant/untrustworthy.

Very entertaining but pointless. And like Lost you might come to regret the wasted time!

OK - so an honest question, I guess just to you and Alan. And obviously in the wrong thread.

Trump should not have been impeached and it was correct not to convict him because:

a) The sacking of the Capitol and associated deaths and dismemberments just weren’t a big deal. Business as usual - get over it!

b) It was kind of bad, but had nothing to do with Trump. If he was involved at all, he was just exercising his free speech privilege.

c) It was bad and Trump was culpable, but unfortunately he is no longer in office and is thus immune to impeachment.

It was bad. (But I've seen worse.)

Impeachment is irrelevant. (But I don't know the rules.)

If Trump is guilty of something then there's a procedure involving evidence and courts and trials. (And it will take months/years to gather that evidence.)

What we've just seen was a failed attempt at a show trial. If this had been Russia then it would have succeeded. One is left with the impression that Democrats wish it was Russia!!
