There is probably nothing wrong with the Republican Party that vigorous application of the 2nd amendment can’t cure.

Marjorie Taylor Green suggested today that anybody asking her Southern bleeding head friends whether they have been vaccinated should be on the receiving end of their second amendment rights (i.e. killed, for those of you not familiar with the vernacular). We’ll say, very mildly, “right back at you, bitch!”

I am generally sympathetic to Texas. But their new abortion law is blatantly unconstitutional, taking Roe v. Wade as what constitutes current law.

I’d love to have the ability to abort a few million Texas Republicans.

Or three or four Supreme Court justices. Same thing, really.

I'm not keen to get involved in the abortion debate! It's a very grey subject presented as black and white. Hey, but what isn't these days?

Yes, it's a very grey and contentious area if you argue from first principles.

But, current US law is essentially Planned Parenthood v. Casey (which refines Roe v Wade).
It's very hard to to see how the Supreme Court rationalized letting the new Texas law stand, while fights work their way through lower courts, in light of those precedents.

Ah yes, there is even a Greek tradition to lean on. Deus ex machina - all republicans will suddenly die from a special variant of Covid!

On the other side of the argument, here's some rationale for Supremes' non-action:
Opinion: The Supreme Court had no reason to block Texas’s abortion law

Same point is made in a wsj editorial:
Texas’s Abortion Law Blunder
Texas argues that abortion providers don’t have standing to challenge the law because the state isn’t enforcing it and neither at this point is any private citizen. Thus there is no case or controversy, which is what courts are supposed to settle. This is technically correct and it is why the five Justices declined to enjoin the law.

OK, maybe they're not so dumb ...

By sheer coincidence, I’m sure, Texas now allow open carry of guns with no background check or training required. Because they are rabidly pro-life.

Jane Roe ... Now that's a story that will convince anyone to be in favour of abortion, right up to 24 months years. Clearly her brain was never viable.
