Biden and Harris - the first 100 days

November 7th, 2020, 11:46 pm

Sure, we have a ways to go before January 20, but transition announcements are already coming out and not a moment too soon.

This one for starters:

Biden and transition plan - Coronavirus Task Force - CNN November 7

"Biden will announce a 12-person coronavirus-task force on Monday, two sources with knowledge tell CNN. The announcement is meant to signify how seriously the president-elect plans to focus on a pandemic that has reached a record number of daily infections in the last week.

The task force will be headed by three cochairs: former surgeon general Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler and Yale University's Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith. The additional members are due to be announced on Monday."

Also hopeful that the US will rejoin the Paris Agreement within the first 100 days and it seems it is likely;

Rolling back Trump's rollbacks: Biden seen reversing climate deregulation - Reuters Nov 7

"Trump’s rollbacks are on shaky ground because most were done not through Congressional lawmaking but via presidential executive orders that can be easily torn up by a new administration. That means signature measures ranging from the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris climate agreement to the easing of vehicle emissions targets could vanish fast...
But building a lasting plan to replace Trump’s regulatory agenda with an ambitious blueprint to fight global climate change may prove tough without a Democrat-controlled Congress to pass legislation. Republican lawmakers appear on track to retain a majority in the Senate, and have been reticent to adopt sweeping climate change measures."

So, to be continued.

Ballina celebrates Joe Biden's victory in US election

Joe is descended from the Blewits of Mayo.

Actually, the other half is the Finnegans in Carlingford who have a great fish/oyster restaurant in Carlingfjord, my home turf.

BBC reporter: "Mr Biden, do you have anything to say to the BBC?"
Joe: "I'm Irish".

As Paul said, they will need to fumigate WH.

Yes, but we have kicked off this thread here, so the ideological fumigation process has begun.

And to counter Rudy Guilinai's assertion that "Courts decide elections." I will claim that Wilmott Forum decides elections. In fact, we are in the transition phase already!

I wonder if Rudy reads Hans Christian Andersen? At some stage he will fall into the quicksand.

So, will be have a Walter Mondale moment "Mr. Nixon, you should admit defeat".

Yes. In all fairness, while they may not be your favorite politicians (if that’s even a thing), these are genuine people of character and experience who represent a return to normalcy. That is not to be confused with Return to Fantasy, which may be my favorite Uriah Heep track.

I think they are lovely. And I’m sure a lot of people were really voting for KH.

As long as they don’t go all socialist then America will be just fine!

Biden and Harris, and Democrats in general, believe America is "systemically racist".

If it is:

1. What explains the disproportionate achievement gaps between Asian-Americans and Black-Americans?

2. How could a systemically racist country just elect a Black-South Asian-American woman as VP, and a Black-American as President earlier?

These loaded questions leave little room to manoeuvre in.
It sounds like an example of a one-sided argument fallacy.

1. Since you categorically rule out systemic racism, the answer is the genetic and/or cultural inferiority of Black Americans.

2. That’s not even dumb. They both happen to be children of immigrants, which is entirely different from having been raised in a domestic culture shaped by slavery, Jim Crow laws, voter suppression (alive and well in GOP controlled states in 2020), redlining, exclusion from buying property, systematically underfunded schools, and so on. It is not like you don’t know this. Also, regardless of the handicap race by itself may impose, it should not be shocking that one or two among tens of millions actually do well. Heck, I’ve even seen a couple of white basketball players do OK.

You have some valid points on 2, but only talk about half of the equation on 1. Try that one again if you're up for it. Extra points if you say something nice about Asian-Americans.

Also, the gist of your answer seems to be "yes -- America is systemically racist, but mostly it's about non-immigrant Blacks or Blacks who are not children of immigrants".  Lucky for KH and Obama!  Also, certainly simplifies the job for all those new Biden "Diversity Trainers"!  :D
