I have many flags!! They come out on special occasions. My favourite is that of the Falklands Islands.

Well obviously don't burn that one - nice sheep!

And if you think about it, you can even smell the haggis too.

@bearish "at most a couple of GOP senators will vote for that regardless of evidence presented," as opposed to Dems who would vote before any evidence is presented! I am keen to see who will vote against party lines. Personally I think the evidence (that I've seen) is weak, so it's the Dems I'll be watching.

@trackstar "an important nod to the world"! Who on Earth thinks that such a nod is necessary?!! The nods are needed by the US. And I'm sure that the stimulus checks will be highly appreciated. However we are talking about a country where they'd rather lose body parts than have a free health service, so who knows?
Personally, I think its important to remember that two thirds vote is required to convict in the Senate and right now it is 50-50 split with the Vice President as a tie breaker. A substantial number of Republicans would need to vote with the Democrats for there to even be a shot at a conviction, but over the last week Republican resolve on fighting impeachment has strengthened - at least from what I have been reading.

Mitch McConnel and Chuck Schumer are going to accept the articles of impeachment as they expressed in the past week, but that is on poor legal ground. The entire impeachment process is subject to judicial review, as always:
  • Alan Dershowitz believes that the House of Representatives violated the constitution at least 6 times while attempting to impeach the president: “They violated the free speech provision. They violated the impeachment criteria. They violated the bill of attainder. They violated due process, on and on and on.”
  • Not to mention their attempts to pressure Mike Pence into invoking the 25th Amendment, to which Mike Pence responded that would violate the constitution as the 25th Ammendment is not an alternative to impeachment.
  • In regards to the issue as to whether or not it is constitutionally sound to impeach a president after he leaves office, the strongest argument for that is that impeachment existed in Britain and there is contextual evidence as to how that should be interpreted. However, the counter argument is that no president in US history has been impeached after leaving office and the normal interpretation has no relationship to British Common law. The argument could easily by made that that if our founding fathers had wanted presidents to be impeachable after leaving office they would have written that in.

A convenient Dershowitz quote (although Trump evidently didn’t offer him enough money to join his team this time around): “The defendant wants to hide the truth because he’s generally guilty. The defense attorney’s job is to make sure the jury does not arrive at that truth.”

Mitch F. McConnell and the rest of the FGOP have decided to destroy any shreds of Senate procedure because, well, he thinks they can get away with it. While pioneering, Trump’s terrorist insurrection and associated murders may not be the last in Congress.

How many sheep are there on Islas Malvinas?
A quick search reveals about 490,000 sheep and about 3,200 human inhabitants.  Meaning about 153 sheep per person.

Also interesting is the vast penguin population there and the sheep hang out with the penguins, seemingly harmoniously.

"Pardon me, but would you happen to know the way to Fox Bay?"

Time for a change here? I am considering making this my new avatar. : D

And over a thousand British soldiers protecting the people and sheep from Argentinos culios malos. Nice place, but a bit too crowded (I don't mean all the penguin species - including gentoo ;-)). I prefer Ascension Island.

Trump's trial is just a skirmish in the left's broader attempt to punish all their political enemies, repress free speech, and entrench their new power. One tactic is to try to make sure that anyone who served in his administration can never work again: Watchdog Group to Track Hiring of Top Ex-Trump Aides - Bloomberg. As for speech suppression, having killed Parler, next up are the The Absurd Calls to Shut Down Fox News.

What's next: re-education camps? Oh wait, we already have that -- it's called college.  :D

For those under the age of 40, look up the term "red baiting" and see how it has evolved in the 21st century!

Here is Alan this evening, in fine matador attire. ; )

But it is time for dinner here - Red Lentil Dal with Spinach and Lemon and champagne for a toast to all Champagne Socialists and California Republicans alike.

Strange Breeds, all of you!

I like that -- although maybe the bull should be a bear.

Just got back from a short trip to sign the Recall Gavin petition. I think he's getting worried: over one million signatures so far -- 1.8 million needed by mid-March to get on a fall ballot. Unlike the left, I have no problem with him working post-governorship. Maybe wine steward at the French Laundry?
