Are you ready for POST BREXIT?

December 24th, 2020, 4:36 pm

Is it the beginning or is it the end?

Does anyone know the details of the deal? I’ve been reading all the news but it’s all padding.

All I heard was that it was 2000 pages legalese.

I just hope no so much paperwork. VAT? pro-formas ...

Seems Common Travel Area is still intact.

Before 1949, all Irish citizens were considered under British law to be British subjects.
(my grandmum was a big fan of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, probably before your time).

NI might be a winner in this brave new post-brexit world. And Joe Biden as US president it does no harm.

People in the business of producing physicals goods will have to comply with both EU and UK regulations. Should they desire to export something to the EU, the amount of paperwork will go up, possibly by a lot, to deal with rules about country of origin and such things. If you want to export services, good luck! You will need a work permit and can, at most, stay for 90 days in any 12-month period. Also, any professional qualifications or licenses will have to be obtained for whatever country you plan to work in. You’ll need a visa to study in the EU, and the UK will no longer be part of Erasmus. Northern Ireland would appear, by and large, to be more aligned with the rest of the island than with Great Britain.

It will be interesting to see how the British fishing fleet will develop after being decimated by Margaret Thatcher and neglect by successive UK governments. One option is outsourcing to the Dutch who can then sell it on in the EU.

Irish Govt to fund Erasmus+ scheme for Northern Ireland students
https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2020/12 ... n-ireland/

Funding will be available to all full-time students attending third level institutions and will not be limited to those with an Irish passport, so British passport holders will also qualify.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Christmas Eve that the UK had rejected an offer to remain part of the EU programme and will instead develop its own alternative policy.

Wut statt Wehmut

Großbritannien ist raus aus der EU. Die Lügner und Dilettanten auf der Insel haben gewonnen. Sie sind eine ewige Schande für alle Konservativen.

The Economist:

In Britain and Europe—which are about to become separate places as well as distinct editions of the newspaper—we look at Britain’s role in the world. It is a question the country has grappled with off and on for centuries, and in recent decades British thinking has often been clouded by nostalgia for lost empire and great-power status.”

What is this British thinking? Who do they speak to? Maybe this is a Europhile thing. The Brexiteers I know don’t care a fig about empires and powers. They just want to be left alone to survive or fall, but on their own terms.

"Prolet"! He's rather giving the game away there! As a journalist he really ought to understand his subject!

It reads like the pre-1914 books of John Buchan (BTW anyone want to purchase 1st edition of History of the War; it's yours for 550 Euros).
Der Spiegel has lost the high ground, maybe it has to compete with Bildt.
If he were younger, Dubliners would call him a gurrier I suppose. Having said that, he has a great future behind him.

Probably a small sample space.
And those BREXITEERS who will fall due to someone else's terms..

Larger than Europhiles, by 52:48. But it is definitely true that there is more diversity among Brexiteers. See one Europhile, you’ve seen them all.
