Just curious, it's not explained here, did the EU want anything in return?

Forgive me for my own limited understanding, wasn't that one of the reasons we voted for Brexit? To keep the Johnny Hallydays out.

I think you’re right. You used to be an island, figuratively as well as literally, and you just wanted to reclaim that status.

Aretha Franklin et al saved British music in the 60s. Up till then it was Max Bygraves and Des O'Connor.

UK firms told 'set up in EU to avoid trade disruption'

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-55786974

The firm, which sold £180,000 of cheese to the EU last year, found that every £25-30 gift box of cheese it sends to consumers on the Continent now needs a veterinary-approved health certificate costing £180.

Umm - wasn’t the whole point of the exercise (Brexercise?) that you hated the EU and their bureaucracy, taxes, rules, Frenchies, etc? So, it should not come as a total surprise that all of the above will be weaponized and used against the first country to leave the union, thus quite possible undermining its entire existence.

They can do that if they so desire! TBH who expected the Frenchies to follow the terms of any contract?!

They managed to resist using the “nuclear option” for a whole 29 days!

Imagine if the EU had its own army...how long before they had a tantrum and invaded someone?! Fortunately they’d be rubbish. As history shows us.

You got lucky. You remind me of John Buchan.

I would have chosen Patton and not the idiot Monty for Operation Market Garden.
