And now Verhofstadt criticizing EU bureaucracy. Where has he been all this time? He must be exceptionally dim.

It’s now official, Kool Aid does not prevent COVID.
The EU should NOT have subsidised AstraZeneca research.
And they (AZ) broke the contract thrice.
Not surprising. Same old story.

If you can't trust them then put in a penalty clause.

“Some vaccines are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em.”

I think the key phrase in that press release was in a quote from their CEO: “..., we hope to make the vaccine available widely and rapidly.” You don’t usually become CEO by being a pessimist, so when they say “hope” they mean it.

short-selling?(?)

I once was an external requirements analyst in a healthcare s/w product based on OCR. The software company sales guy got the requirement "5% efficiency improvement". He swallowed it whole. I requested him to go back to the customer for clarification. Final answer was "DO YOUR BEST".

EU pays €336 mln to secure AstraZeneca’s potential COVID-19 vaccine

https://www.euractiv.com/section/corona ... 9-vaccine/

The overall price they will pay to acquire the doses has not been revealed, but under an earlier deal struck in June with AstraZeneca by Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands, all members of the EU, AstraZeneca agreed to sell 300 million doses for €750 million.

No wonder the CEO was full of "hope".

What's the question (input?)

I don't think anyone is saying the vaccine is causing clots as such.

The Economist---it takes a clot to know a clot---says this: https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/2021/03/15/eu-countries-pause-astrazenecas-covid-19-jab-over-safety-fears:

The wave of suspensions was set in motion by data from a Norwegian medical regulator that reported four cases of blood clotting in adults given the vaccine. Similar—and similarly small—reports have come from Denmark, Italy and Austria

They don’t quite come out and say it, but they imply that the blood clot victims may also have had breakfast. That being said, four supposedly otherwise healthy young(ish) people getting a complex blood related syndrome (including skin bleeding and a low blood platelet count) soon after receiving a new vaccine is noteworthy. But noteworthy things happen all the time...

Product development is never linear. How many attempts did Thomas Edison or Henri Poincare need before there was only one option left?

As far as I know, they reported several deaths due to deep vein thrombosis in 5 mln vaccinated. Comparing it to the incidence and mortality of DVT in the general population (at certainly  lower autopsy rate), the conclusion could be that the vaccine has a protective effect!

https://www.ajpmonline.org/article/S074 ... ltext#tbl1

Wrong people (politicians) making wrong decisions (halting the AZ vaccinations) again. The vaccine is cheaper than others and thus more competitive, plus the EU haven't managed to secure its supply in the conflict with the UK - these factors call for a conspiracy theory (-:

That's what I thought. You don't even need the back of an envelope for the calculation once you see how common DVT is anyway!

If the EU is concerned about blood clotting they should:

First: Stop women (or "persons with a uterus") from getting pregnant

Second: Stop stopping women (etc.) from getting pregnant by using the contraceptive pill
