The vaccines

January 18th, 2021, 10:03 pm

I rarely quote the NYTimes, but this piece seems useful.
Personally, I don't need convincing, but I have friends who do:

I agree with that opinion. People should be educated and made aware of all facts; familiarised with the concept of uncertainty - not "protected" from knowledge and truth. But this is of course against the idea of a state...

"Why are many experts conveying a more negative message?
Again, their motivations are mostly good."
Old story - they wanted the best, but turned out like always.

Trust the science, not the scientist.

I didn't know my avatar would be this relevant when I made it.  I'm holding out for the J&J vaccine which uses andenovector vs mRNA tech.  If we don't get a choice I will take whatever is available as soon as it's available for my group.

Will you do the injecting yourself?

I'll probably be among the last to jab, and my organism will probably freak out like after every vaccine I remember taking. My immune system is so strong that it's dangerous to stand next to me 8-)

BTW, it's interesting how the immune system evolves during our lifetime - weak and defenceless in newborns, it has to spread evenly on the whole universe of new viruses, bacteria and a series of powerful jabs; in adulthood, it's already strong and hardened, but when it encounters something new, it tends to strike with its full power. Then it just like a lighter with no fuel. (Just my imagination; no science.)

My thought was, given a choice, I wanted Moderna over Pfizer because the former requires "normal" cooling while the latter almost requires supercooling in transit. So, too easy to screw up and then you get an ineffective dose.

What's your rationale for andenovector over (any) mRNA tech?

What if the vaccines don't work?

Why have countries like New Zealand, Vietnam, Taiwan, China it under control?

Ireland was the best 2 months ago, now it's the worst. Christmas and porous borders is the cause.

AstraZeneca vaccine not recommended for over 65s - German vaccine committee

https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/202 ... s-vaccine/

This is becoming a "no true Scotsman" soap.
So, if you are British an over 65......

Only yesterday they were pressuring AstraZeneca to send the batches made in and for the UK to the EU countries. Pure dirty politics.

The EU are prioritizing supply of Kool Aid.
