"Doctors have criticised “risky” plans from Thérèse Coffey for chemists to prescribe antibiotics to patients without seeing a GP – and branded the new Health Secretary “reckless” over suggestions she has handed her own supplies out to friends."
As much as her suggestion sounds crazy in the light of Alexander Flemming's Nobel speech, it's hopelessly innocuous these days. Some crude statistics from here and there: majority of antibiotics is prescribed for diseases not caused by bacteria, majority of antibiotics in the ecosystem come from meat farms where they are used to fatten the animals up, majority of the pharmaceutical industry has given up on developing new antibiotics (the rate of their withdrawal / bugs acquiring resistance is too high to make it either profitable or effective). So knock yourself out!
