Are there still any Poles in the UK? I must come and check.
1. What's the contour integral around Western Europe?

Answer: Zero, because all the Poles are in Eastern Europe! Addendum: Actually, there ARE some Poles in Western Europe, but they are removable!

Ok, Mr Joseph Stalin decided forever what is East and what is West. But... Would you say that Berlin (and one third of Germany) is in the East?

I think it dates back to the Romans.

If you refer to the Romans or at least to the Church of Rome, whole Poland is in Western Europe. As Hungary, Slovaka, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

No, that is not what I had in mind. Western Europe is geographical, not ideological.

If Western Europe is just geographical, the Romans have indeed nothing to do. We just take the geographical midpoint of Europe, draw a line from the top to the bottom and define the West on the left and the East on the right. There are some various concepts where this midpoint is: in Slovakia, Estonia, Belorus... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_midpoint_of_Europe

For most of them the major parts of Poland are in the West.

Where I come from  it is more zig zag.
Still room for BREXIT opportunism. All those silly borders. Just drawing lines means same mistakes by the inept Boundary Commission in 1922. Just like Alsace-Lorraine.

Poland, officially the Republic of Poland,[c] is a country in Central Europe. It is divided into 16 administrative provinces called voivodeships, covering an area of 312,696 km2 (120,733 sq mi). Poland has a population of over 38 million and is the fifth-most populous member state of the European Union.[

Back on topic (this is not the OT!). Somehow, “the business secretary” is deeply offended that anybody, and specifically the BBC, could possibly think that the announcement of pretty massive unfunded tax cuts might have caused the market to kill the gilt market and a bunch of pension funds in the process. Because, umm, taxes be bad! And we don’t actually care much about those pension plans anyway. This whole business of pretending to be a populist is very annoying!

Whatever else is true about Kwarteng (? wasn't that the name of a Klingon villain in one of the Star Trek movies?), it is clear that he is deeply, deeply dishonest, to the point that he cannot possibly be a good person in my view. That just from his repeated harping on the IMF noting that his fiscal package "is expected to lift growth somewhat above the forecast in the near term" in a report that otherwise excoriates his policy.

It's a bit like an illegal fentanyl dealer repeatedly noting what an effective pain killer it is.

Economics is not a science. It’s just opinions. If anyone knew what they were talking about there wouldn’t be voting on what to do with interest rates!

Interest rates is a political statement (but not an economics-grounded decision) no?

There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza,
There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, a hole.

So fix it dear Henry, dear Kwasi, dear Kwasi,
So fix it dear Henry, dear Kwasi, fix it.

With what should I fix it, dear Liza, dear Liza,
With what should I fix it, dear Liza, with what?
