I spoke to an English lady (possibly an exiter) and I asked her was she not worried about CC. In a magic moment of blind doublethink she retorted that they had been eating chlorinated salad for years. End of discussion. The tabloids have a lot to answer for. They are very clever.

One of the interesting things about that unredacted document, the one all the  fuss is about, is the difference between the US and EU approaches to, well, everything. It seems that the difference between the legal systems also applies to business. I.e. in the US anything goes unless it is forbidden. In the EU the opposite is true. You can't do anything unless some bureaucrat has given it the OK. I know which I prefer!

Liam Fox has defended the controversial practice of disinfecting chicken with chlorine, reopening a cabinet rift over whether post-Brexit food standards should be lowered to facilitate a trade deal with the US.

“There are no health reasons why you couldn’t eat chickens that have been washed in chlorinated water,” the trade secretary told MPs when asked whether there was anything wrong with the process. “Most of the salads in our supermarkets are rinsed in chlorinated water,” he said.

Corollary: Salads do not contain SALMONELLA.

As a regular consumer of chlorinated chicken, I have no issues with it at all, per se. The underlying problem that a certain style of factory farming results in chickens that need to be aggressively disinfected is real. But, it's not like I would eat chicken sashimi anywhere outside of Japan, anyway, and even there I might frown upon it (as I eat it).

Ummm, sadly lettuce and sprouts and other salad ingredients are routinely recalled for making people ill from salmonella as well as e. coli. Sorry!

Over the course of a five-day refrigeration – a typical storage time for a bagged salad – 100 Salmonella pathogens multiplied into more than 100,000 bacteria. Salad juices also helped the Salmonella to attach itself to the salad leaves so strongly that even vigorous water washing could not remove the bacteria. Salad leaf juice also enhanced the pathogen’s ability to attach to the plastic bags and containers used to contain salads for sale. Most concerning was that we found that exposure to the juices released from the salad leaves appeared to enhance the Salmonella’s capacity to establish an infection in the consumer.

I think the conclusion is that salmonella is a storm in an eggcup.

It seems to be generally agreed that Labour was lying about this document. I only got about 20% of the way through and it seemed quite encouraging if anything.
