Having grown up working a lot of fire wood with a father who spent some time in his youth cutting down trees for a living, I get this one. One good rule of thumb is, when shit starts hitting the fan, get rid of the chainsaw!

I almost took out the village's power supply last year with scenario @3.10. By coincidence a passing sheep farmer saved the day.

A beginner's error is where to place the first cut (on opposite side of direction you want the tree to fall.. kind of counter-intuitive).
