I had an interview with them the day before yesterday for a partime intern position. there were 4 guys, took 2 hours. the first guy asked all the finance questions, second guy asked all the programming questions, third guy asked all the quant. statistics questions, the fourth guy asked about everything. just received an email from them today, I didn't get the job

they grind you a lot in in the interviews. In this job market, it's difficult to break in there.they are always looking but very very picky

actually it was a paid position. and there was a chance that the position would switch to permanent once I graduate. I didn't do well for the first guy, but I thought it went pretty well for the rest 3. well, what can I say? wait until the job market picks up. thanks to god I am still in school

actually I think the market is picking up. for the past 1and half month I had 3 interviews. one programming position for bloomberg, one risk modeler position at goldman sachs, plus the blackrock one. too bad I didn't get even one ..

I also think market is picking up. I sent my CVs to HHs last winter/spring with practically no reply. And now they've started to call me myTT, thanks for information, I expected something like this. How hard were questions, can you give some examples? Was it specified in which group this intern position was supposed to be?

it was the financial modeling group. to prepare for the interview, pay special attention to fixed income securities, like bond pricing and duration. study for conditional probabilities, and expectations in statistics terms. make sure you know how to solve integrals (they gave me a really complicated one). also, I was asked to write binary search algorithm in C language. There were also a bunch of questions on simple data structures like list, array.. oh, SQL problems were also asked, make sure you at least know what outer join and inner join is. good luck

Thanks a lot myTT!!! By integrals do you mean stochastic or deterministic? And algorithms - did you have to write them on paper, or could you use computer?Any "puzzle"-kind problems?

Just curious, what is your education background and at what level would you have entered.....I interviewed with them a while ago, and had a somewhat contrary experience. They seemed a little zealous. And, let me be the first to say, I am not very impressive.

I have a PhD though not in CF. I don't know what they expect me to do - they invited me for interview in NY after one phone talk, where they asked some simple programming/probability questions. I was surprised since I thought I did very bad - thinking too long about elementary questions etc. The thing I liked about this interview is that at the end they gave me an open-ended question and let me think about it for a couple of days. This was unusual and quite interesting!xanadu, what do you mean by contrary experience? Did they asked you too simple questions? Did you get an offer afterwards? Was it a phone or on-site interview?Do you remember questions they asked?

to Xanadu:my background is in computer science. I hold both BS and MS in that field. I am studying quant. finance right now.to ezhik:I wrote the program on paper. integrals in expectations. E(X) = integral of X times f(X), they just gave me a complicated one. puzzle question ... well, they asked "if I have 2 kids, one of them is a boy, what is the probablity that the other kid is a girl?" For people who don't know conditional probablity, this can be a puzzle one.

Quote integrals in expectations. E(X) = integral of X times f(X), they just gave me a complicated one. You mean f(x) was such that you need some tricks to take an integral?Quotepuzzle question ... well, they asked "if I have 2 kids, one of them is a boy, what is the probablity that the other kid is a girl?" For people who don't know conditional probablity, this can be a puzzle one.Do you know the right answer? Is it 1/2 or 2/3?

Personally I would have thought the two events would be independent - therefore conditional probability would be none relevant.........leaving 1/2?
