Bonjour!C'est ma 1ère fois de poster qqch. sur ce forum. En fait, je prépare un diplôme de Magistère de Finance à l'Université Paris-Dauphine. L'année prochaine je pourrais suivre un double cursus de Magistère et DEA 106 (Economie et Finance Internationales). Ayant lu des messages ici concernant plutôt d'autres formations (DESS 203, DEA 104...), je me demande si la voie que je suivrais m'offre une perspective comparable de carrière dans la finance de marché. Je suis en effet très intéressé par la gestion du portefeuille et la gestion des risques. Je ne pourrai pourtant pas demander une double incription en DESS 203 ou le DEA 104 qui chevaucheront mes emplois du temps en Magistère. Je voudrais donc savoir si abandonner le magistère au profit d'une inscription en DESS 203 ou en DEA 104 s'avère un choix judicieux pour éventuellement travailler à Londres plus tard? I you intend to work in ALM or risk management, especially in London, no hesitation as for the Dauphine courses: go for either the DEA or DESS (this particular DEA tends to be quite "professional", and quite focused on portfolio management for a couple of years), the other courses (especially with a name quite particular to France, as far as the LMD new format is concerned) are not really recognized abroad. Moreover, you will be able to boast courses with prominent professors, do some research... Still, everything depends on your horizon, obviously. If you are really attached to the magistere, maybe you can negotiate (having met the dean of the 104 for an entry this fall, I can tell that she is very nice and could possibly arrange this if there is not much overlap)hope this helps

Salut Moi jai fais le DEA 106 donc si tu veux faire de la finance de marché(options etc), ce DEA n'est pas approprié à 100%. Tu peux en effet suivre quelques cours du DEA 104 en DEA 106, tu peux meme suivre quelques cours du DEA MASE(qui selon moi est mieux que le 104). Aussi, tu as dans la liste des cours de l'école doctorale, une bonne dizaine de matieres focalisant sur la finance de marché. Mais le DEA 106 qui est un tres bon DEA reste plus basé sur la macrofinance. Donc a ta place moi je ferai le double cursus BFA + 106 et puis j'enchainerai une année apres sur soit un MS dans une des 3P ou un DESS/DEA a Dauphine mais sache que le cumul des 3èmes cycles est très mal vu. Je voulais faire le DEA MASE apres le 106 mais le directeur voulait pas recruter des DEA Dauphine.

In effect, I have a special interest for the DEA 104 because of its wider coverage on corporate finance & strategy but I do fear that in a sluggish economic context, the DEA degree is not appreciated by recruiters who have too much conventional ideas about French universities' education and about research.Another point is that given the current economic settings, risk mgmt (DESS 203) seems to be a more promissing field of study than portfolio mgmt (DEA104). Recruitments are less guaranteed in the latter than in the former. What are your opinions?Happy new year!

from a purely professional point of view, DESS203 is indeed better regarded as DEA104 to my mind, be it only for the fame of the dean of DESS203. Still, I feel that DEA MASE is indeed even better regarded as far as risk management is concerned: DESS203 is quite practical, as all DESS, while DEA MASE looks more like an MSc in the sense that it teaches methods rather than "results". DEA104 is somewhere inbetween and that may be its weakness...
