London or New York?

I just hope to have the best of the both worlds ... every city has its pros and its cons ... think i should not get into the fanatic mode of defending NY as if my life depended on it ..

I think I may prefer London for now, assuming each is an equal target for the enemies of capitalism...

London or New York?

I think it a bit odd for this crowd to debate such an issue. Why must it be an either/or proposition? At different stages in one's life/career, each city may have more advantages at that time. What is the best category in which to invest, equities or fixed-income? Confining oneself to just one category is not optimal. Same thing for locales. For instance, "best" depends upon whether your children are school age or not, younger or older. Speaking of which, what city is better for not just raising, but also educating children. London seemed safer for children to have a bit more independence, and government-run schools in the greater London area seem better than NYC, where you must move to the suburbs or else use private schools. (Do Brit's use the term "public school" to refer to something which is actually not a government-run school) After only a brief visit Geneva seems like it might be a rather pastoral place to raise/educate children, if one is really well-off. Many Americans claim we have the "best" healthcare system in the world, and that socialized medicine results in rationing. Surprise! Surprise! A totally private/commercial model has managed to spread rationing through the entire US healthcare industry and it is only getting started. Many people on this forum can probably afford to pay privately for those things which insurance tries to deny us. However, I have family members, including parents, for whom rationing is starting to be a problem. If incomplete coverage forces patients to save up for a deductible before having a treatment, how is that any different from being stuck on a months-long wait list under socialized medicine? With the increasing cost of healthcare and a population bulge coming into their peak utilization years, this could turn into a politico-economic problem in the US.Politico-economic problems can crop up anywhere at different times. That's why it may be wise to hedge your bets by preserving the option of switching countries as the need may arise. Hence, don't get too attached to any one locale. Nationalist jingoism is almost as irrelevant as arguing that your primary school was better than mine. I'm not interested in penmanship contests. [dueling Mont Blancs at 20 paces] SSSPLAT!!!
All standard disclaimers apply, and then some.

London it is, for me. Didn't quite digest the American attitude in NYC and decided to move back.

depends on 1) your time horizon and 2) outlook of the direction of US leadership of world economy personally, short term, NY - long term, London
