Getting jobs in the UK: Highly Skilled Migrant Programme

February 2nd, 2004, 10:38 am

Strange how tough this system was. Since, a 75 pointer would be significantly more productive than the averageUK National. Moreover, few UK nationals themselves would qualify under this scheme, less than 5%. A 65 pointeris still significantly more productive than the average UK National. But anyway its interesting timing with the EU expansion on the 1st May? Maybe, the idea is get these 65 pointers inquickly to take up any slack before the flood of maybe 50 (and below) pointers in May.

Getting jobs in the UK: Highly Skilled Migrant Programme

This is quite interesting -- I just came upon it.How does employment work? So can one work legally once one qualifies without having to go through any additional red tape? I mean -- is this sufficient for employment and for entering and exiting the U.K.? I come from the U.S., where the system is completely different -- you need an H-1 (employment) visa, and the process towards permanent residence is a nightmare (I'm now a permanent resident).I believe that I've 65 points, and the pamphlet actually says that they try to make decisions within one day. It seems quite easy. I'm not ready to move from the U.S. now but may consider it in the future.Thanks.

here's a good link to see if you would qualify: http://www.workpermit.co.uk/uk/hsmp_cal ... 8c0a312a8i was planning on attending a uk school for my masters, but since i don't have work experience, it doesn't look like i qualify for the hsmp. i'd also appreciate if anyone can give some advice or knows of any other options for int'l grads. thx.
