Zurich vs Frankfurt

March 30th, 2004, 6:45 am

I got a job offer in finance/consulting and have a choice between Franfurt/Main and Zurich, pay is a bit higher in Zurich because the cost of living is higher. I have never been to either of those cities and have to decide. Quality of life is important, culture, nightlife, i want to travel, etc. I want to stay for 2 years before i move to NYC, so it's quite an important decision. What city has a better reputation in the US, ie. when i put it on my resume?

Don't know about Zurich, but I spent a year studying in Frankfurt. Nightlife is OK, travelling easy... and there is too much culture IMO. For you as an american... a lot of them in Frankfurt as well.

Zurich. It's a very nice place to live (very expensive too). PS N should know. He went to school there

Did marauding gangs of chamber musicians press gang you into attending lunchtime recitals in nearby churches and concert halls?

Put it other way - there is opera (pricey, at least for students. Shouldn't be a problem if one is already workin in the city), tons of museums (Museumufer on the other side of the Main river), there is Sacshenhausen (one needs to find out about that by himself), concerts and gigs etc. Probably Zurich has all that stuff as well, but I know I'd go for Frankfurt if I had a choice (Not to mention all the nice areas and cities nearby - Odenwald for hiking, Wiesbaden for shopping etc.)

I wouldn't mind going back there actually... I just liked it so much down there. FFM, my second home
