Alternative Quant Jobs

May 8th, 2004, 4:39 pm

Dear allSorry about this, it's a real newbie question. It's pretty clear from other posts that quant jobs are exceptionally difficult to obtain. I'm wondering what sort of alternatives there are for someone with a maths PhD who wants to do highly quantitative work in the finance industry. Is there anything other than actuarial work? Tronc

There are also financial software companies to consider, e.g Sungard, Algorithmics, Riskmetrics, Numerix etc. I went from one of these into a quant job at a IB. You can pick up some extra finance knowledge there and, (hopefully), some good programming skills as well.
