It was awesome....badly managed given that they were expecting a couple of thousands to turn up...in the end.....half a million people turned up...but still awesome...fast cars....fast women.....and free....what more could you ask for...however anyone who did see will tell you that it almost went horribly wrong as the ferrari driver when doing his doughnut spins alomost collided with one of the stewards. He missed him by inches....It would be good to hold in Central london although i would say hold it in the city (square mile) given that it is dead on Sundays...whether or not it happens is another matter....For the record, Button, mansells and montoya got the biggest cheer!!!DC well.....

i used to walk through the city most saturdays and you used to get a fair number of ferraris driving through anyway. it was one small consolation seeing all the porsches parked ouitside UBS on the weekend - nice car, shame the owner's working...re the F1:do you think they'd be banned from taking a right turn onto bishopsgate?did they pay the congestion charge?

Yeah I think it would be a great idea…not only least disruption to shoppers but also would help renovate the surrounding areas…eg tower hamlet…….which is one of the poorest parts of the UK and yet is right on the edge of the square mile…..Roads round there are pretty largish as well so could well accommodate Ferraris and BARs etc….Having said all that given that it is a good idea this means by default it wont happenAs for congestion charge ….apparently they forgot……..

Tonight it's Trafalgar Square being turfed over with grass for an open-air Opera performance - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainmen ... 872491.stm Tripitaka, you based on bishopsgate?

Wasn't this the reducto ad absurdum of F1 - the cars were just moving billboards, only this time without the chance of an overtaking move or an off.

You had the F1 cars going up/down regent street and eventually doing a doughnuts....no overtaking allowed..they did it one at a time....As for F! in london....If they keep it as a three day event....then it is never going to happen......I cant believe no-one has touted the square mile as a posible venue....everyone talks about the West end as being the best place

Where in the city is there space for the paddock, pits, grandstands etc? The plans I've seen in some newspapers look good - finally making some reasonable use of Park Lane and Hyde Park Corner. I wonder whether they will go for some kind of trial event first; start small with a bike race perhaps.

only in london would it be considered a good idea to shut off much of the center of the city (such as there is a discernible center to hell) for much of the day for the sake of some poxy cars. totally sums up what the priorities are here. and did they pay the congestion charge?

I just saw ITV1 which showed an on-board camera view of martin Brundle driving an F1 around the London circuit. All I can saw is fucking hell! It was truly unbelievable - most of the way it appeared as if he had only a couple of inches spare between the car and barriers - no margin for error at all. It would have been horrific had he hit one of those with all those people crammed in behind them... Still, incredibly impressive! This being one of the wider parts of the 'track':
