Hi everyone,So I've posted here before...and I'm just trying to get some better context from some folks on this forum. Again, here's a brief background:1) I'm a Software Developer in telecom looking to break into SW Development in IB (and also a major buy-side firm...but that's slightly OT for this specific post).2) I plan to persue the SW application development career track and have no intentions of trying to lateral into the IB department of an I-Bank or being a "quant" (although I would entertain such an opportunity should it present itself to me). Anyhow, I'm wondering if I'm missing anything with respect to how I see IT and SW development fit into the various functions of an I-Bank? From what I've seen, most of the "rocket science" takes place in the Trading department of an I-Bank...I'm pretty familiar with what's needed there, but I'm at a loss of what type of IT is needed in the remainder of the groups in an I-Bank: Corporate Finance (i.e. the IB "stuff" that's usually discussed on this board): * It seems not much IT/development is needed here...just standard "office" type stuff (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc). Research: * Again, these analysts don't seem to require much more than the full suite of MS office apps and an internet connection? Sales: * It seems these retail, institutional, and PCS types just need a pretty suit and cellphone...not much in the way of rocket science here? Basically, I'm just trying to get a handle on the most exciting areas of an I-Bank, from the perspective of a Software Developer in IT. Any insights from you folks out there? Many thanks again,Duck.PS - Does anyone know of a forum similar to this that gets into trading systems SW development or any type of hard-core SW development in the financial services sector?
