The search function?

June 3rd, 2002, 7:04 pm

Hi,From what I can tell the search function of this forum isn't working. I think a lot of double asked questions could be avoided if someone made the search function work.Doesn't that sound resonable?

I cant see why you suggest the search function is not working... maybe you are doing something wrong. My guess is that you select the BODY AND TITLE option rather than the BODY OR TITLE as I was doing rgds,Dimitris

hmm.. this might be an browser issue.. all I get at the search page is a field for username, and a search-button without any field over this. So this probably is a (badly formed) html-page which isn't displayed correctly if not using Internet explorer

Patrik...Please tell me the exact problem you are having. Please let me know what browser and set-up you are using to use the forum - a screenshot of the page would help if you can send one.The search function does work on this forum using MSSQL Full Text searching... however your description sounds as if you don't get a properly formatted search page to start with. The forum is design to work with IE4/NN4 and above, but I will see if I can help you out. James FahyWilmott.comAdministrator

you are correct, I tested a few other browsers (netscape 4.77 and mozilla 0.9.3) and got a totally different page I am using Konqueror from KDE3 under FreeBSD 4.5, with this browser I get the page shown in the screenshot attached to this message.Hope you will find a fix for this!

forgot to mention I discovered another thing during my last post - attach file function doesn't work properly either, I can upload the file but the lising of files isn't shown below. This is what you get when not using Microsoft software, but the search page seems like an easy enough thing to fix. My guess is that it is the html forming the bars around the fields which aren't correct (according to standard) or aren't liked by all browsers at least.Just to let you know.

Sorry Patrik,I have some good and some bad news.... first the badThis is a response from the creators of our forum'We can only support the mainstream browsers, Netscape 4.x+, IE4+, Opera 5.12+'However the good news is that'Netscape 6 works quite well on Linux from what we have heard.' - So you can at least bypass Microsoft is that is your wish.RegardsJames Fahy

that's ok. Now that I am aware of the problem I know when to use another browser. When you know that a problem exist it often goes away quite easily.Bypassing Microsoft isn't a wish per se, I just happen to like unix better as a programming environment and as a production environment for comercial systems. If IE would be available for unix systems I would perhaps use it.
