the Phs is young, only 2 years.==> - not well recognized- not really exeptionnal students- not a lot of publicationsbut+ very good teaching faculty+ link with ETH+ zurich is the center of finance in switerland+ zurich is beautifull+ get 3000 CHF per month the first year of studies+ link with gamma fundationFAME in Lausanne : too corporate finance and no flexibility... ZH is better for that.

ask shadi for the ranking of universities. I don't care. in my situation, I did't apply for a PhD in ZH since the first year overlap at 80% the Master program. So I would not have learned more...I went to FAME, but that was too much corporate finance for me. And now, that's worst (they changed the lectures). Do not care about money: as a PhD student you'll get engough to live. In the first year you just take lectures, you don't teach.

ok. you know anything about the program in lugano?i dont care about money, but it would be interesting how much you get in the second and third year.if the master and the phd-program are so similar it is strange that they recommand such a master before entering the phd-program.do you think it is managable without such a master, too? after having finished the phd, is it easy to get a job?how much are the living costs in zurich?so many questions... thanks.

But I am sure you'ld need a master anyway4. room ~700 CHF/month, food ~800 CHF/month, parties ~30CHF/entry, transports ~3CHF/ticket, insurance ~300CHF/month, phone ~50CHF/month, TV~50CHF/month.At FAME I received 2'000/month and it was okay (just okay...) So in ZH, with 3'000 that enough !

thanks. for your quick reply...do you know if you have to pay tax during the phd-program? or is the first year tax-free as it is a grant and in the following two years you have to pay tax on your income?with insurance you mean health insurance? or more?did you get a phd-degree or a title like 'dr.' as you did your program in switzerland?

1.you have to pay taxes, even in the first year (but cheap), like 500 CHF / semester2.health insurance + RC (you are responsible in case of fire, crash, etc)3.you get the title Dr. + paper to certify that you did a PhD degree

I can vouch for the staff at ETH Zurich as being one of the most accessible. ETH Zurich is the place to go for higher studies in Switzerland.

Hi allSVG : Since the PhD is young, it it not well known and not well recognized around the world. Hence, the best students in the world do not really know the program and apply elsewhere in the world. Of course, outliers exist!!!Adas : I have heard about him. Seems to be a nice person.
