An Open Challenge to Nassim Taleb from Hamilton

November 7th, 2004, 3:51 am

QuoteOriginally posted by: AthleticoSo, Hamilton, you want to explore/critique/pontificate? Fascinating. Taleb has books, papers, articles, a website and public lectures that expound his views. His philosophical views are not exactly a secret. But here you go yet again, pestering him to post some kind of Cliff Notes edition here just for you to take pot shots at. Why don't you start with the content on one of the two-dozen mpegs he's posted? He addresses the very question on Stoicism and Trading you're asking about.>> Besides buying Fooled by Randomness, that is. You should buy it.I've already listened to the MPEG's and they are terse as well as elliptical. Far from asking him to post a Coles Notes, I am asking for any additional supporting information for his views -- his comments in FBR on Stoicism run to only a few pages -- before exploring/critiquing/pontificating.Good luck with your medication.

> Good luck with your medication. That's the wittiest repartee you have? Did you get that from "101 Generic Insults For All Occasions"?Seriously, if you want to engage in some kind of philosophical discussion, why don't you lead it off? The polite way to do so would be to start with your own interpretation of what you understand Taleb's views to be, preferably with verbatim quotes. Then state your own position, highlight your differences and see if it starts a discussion. I'm sorry to be rude and step in the way I did, but I just get annoyed seeing you polluting non-Off Topic Forums with silly pseudo-intellectual challenges. I suspect I'm not alone in my annoyance. What exactly have YOU published anyway? Anything?

Anything? A 6 volume history of World War II. Have you read it?

THE SECOND WORLD WARFirst published by Houghton Mifflin Co., Boston: 1948-53 (6vols)Woods A123The books that brought most of us to Churchill. "This is not history; this is my case," he said: but what a case. Volume 1, "The Gathering Storm," continues where The World Crisis left off.the volumes contain 5000 pages, illustrated by maps and plans. The American edition preceded the Cassell English Edition by six months because Churchill insisted on numerous last minute changes to the latter, which he considered definitive. Reprinted frequently, still in print and readily available secondhand. An abridged edition with a discussion by Churchill of the first ten years since the war, was published in 1959.

My fault, I didn't know I was chatting with Winnie -- thanks for saving the world from Nazi domination. Most psychiatric wards have a special wing for delusional folks like you, Hamilton. Good luck with the medication!
