Quasi-Private Companies To Outperform >>Don't worry, this will be the market call on CNBC 2 1/2 years from now. And it's being prophesised by our forum's own beloved duck, MP. Anyway, the Blue Chip ---> Nasdaq ---> Hedge Fund ---> Private Equity call seems to be a good one. Unfortunately it's going to lead to more public bloodbaths and claims of fleecing than before. If you thought people moaned when the nasdaq lost 70% of it's value, wait until the hedge funds start taking suckers out left and right. Sure, you don't mind paying 2 points on assets and 25% over a highwater mark when you're getting a 45% return, but once you start losing money, the terms of that contract seem to be a bit unfair...oh poor me, I didn't realize what I was getting into, they will cry. I don't feel that the fund of funds managers offering hedge fund portfolio to the rough and unlettered masses will fare much better. Understanding how a fund works is a lot more complicated than it seems, but understanding how a collection of funds works is almost. All kinds of restrictions on withdrawls, different payoff schemes, the works. Has anyone here has ever seen any documentation for a private equity deal?? Believe me accredited investors that get into it aren't going to bother to read it. And shortly thereafter a settlement will be reached so that the uninformed but accredited investor who lost his shirt doesn't feel ripped off and the bank that placed it without worrying whether or not the account understood the deal doesn't look like such a greedy SOB. Any Predictions on what comes after private equity?? I'm thinking some sort of state sanctioned limited form of indentured servitude, where the only way companies will be able to raise money in the "new capital markets" is by pimping their management team out to perform menial tasks at the homes of the wealthy and the regulators during their off hours. No direct investment, but damn are my pillows fluffy.
