Chentail,What are you trying to model?I've read the first edition of the book mentioned and is a very good intro to fuzzy logic. If anyone can share, I would like to know what the differences are between the first and second eds.

Hi! Arbitrary:I am attending a presentation. The title of the presentation is "Measuring Operational Risk using Fuzzy Logic Modeling".The presentation will explore the feasibility of the use of fuzzy logic methods for assessing operational risks.

If you want a basic general introduction (at paperback book prices) then Bart Kosko's Fuzzy Thinking is pretty good. You can get it used from circa £2. It's not a reference work but it's a good way to get into the subject while eg. on the tube.

Chentail,Are you attending the International Risk Management Institute (irmi.com) presentation? Did a search from google: http://www.irmi.com/Expert/Articles/200 ... 9.aspxIt's interesting how fuzzyy logic can be used to measure operational risk using the subjective Key Risk Indicators, such as 'Product Complexity'.Whether fuzzy logic can be used to quantify an operational risk is questionable. Just imagine a senior head receiving a report on the day's operational risk levels as being 'HIGH' or 'LOW'.Please report back on your findings if you do attend the presenation.

Arbitrary,Unfortunately I was not able to attend the Presentation due to the weather. "Whether fuzzy logic can be used to quantify an operational risk is questionable. Just imagine a senior head receiving a report on the day's operational risk levels as being 'HIGH' or 'LOW'."Isn't it what the management want? a simple answer for a complex problem. thanks for all your inputs.

Just imagine a senior head receiving a report on the day's operational risk levels as being 'HIGH' or 'LOW'.Different parts of a system can be fuzzy. In the most common arrangement, only the internals of a fuzzy logic process are fuzzy: inputs to the system and generated outputs are ordinary, non-fuzzy numbers.-W. The former will be of greater interest to someone interested in implementing a fuzzy system. Personally, I'd suggest The Fuzzy Systems Handbook, by Earl Cox.-Will Dwinnellhttp://will.dwinnell.com

In one of those books Kosko describes how he will be frozen into a cyrogenic machine. They will freeze him and he will come out of the box at a later stage. So he may be writing books for our grandchildren.
