career transition

Hello All,I have MSc degree in Applied Physics and have been working as a software engineer (scientific, not a dot.com) in last two years. I am very fascinated with quantitative finance and went ahead and studied Hull's futures and options book. It was so much fun. Does any one have any recommendations on what kind a path to take on getting a research quant or a quant developer postion?Thanks...
