Just a quiet talk

July 20th, 2005, 6:59 pm

Hi there, looking for some advice for an interview which is "just a quiet talk."I am finishing a pure finance phd and I have been invited to a us i-bank in London to talk about a position. The guy who invited me is a friend of my advisor and he has often given me advice on my papers (credit stuff). The guy says that it is 'just a quiet talk' with a couple of quants and traders. Anyone of you got an idea on how I can expect that to be like? They will fire brainteasers at me or will it probably just be a talk about projects and where I could fit in? Thanks

They will ask you about your thesis, so try to sound as interested as possible in the last 4 years of your life. It is upto you to show them that you have the skills you need to fit into their environment.

From the sound of it your friend has already suggested you might be a good hire so I doubt it will be very aggressive. Try to find out from them what they're doing day to day and find somewhere you could add value to the process. Explain what you've been working on but bear in mind they'll be looking for something concrete you can contribute to help them rather than a lot of abstract theory.
