Commodity (Energy) Trading Houses

August 2nd, 2005, 8:09 pm

Hi,Can anyone please tell me how E.On is rated within the industry for energy trading as I've heard a mixture of responses. I know the best in the business is Morgan Stan. and BarCaps, but banks aside who else is rated. E.g Shell, Bp etc...The reason I'm asking is that commodity trading sounds really interesting although I'm not sure of the earning potential when compared to credit/Fi trading. Anyway I was looking into this as a start for my career. :->Thank You

Energy Risk magazine has a ranking for traders in various energy markets. Except banks and oil companies only RWE and EDF Trading made it from the Europeans - E.ON is surely large but does not have a reputation for trading acumen.

If its energy trading acumen you want then look no further then Glencore and Trafigura... two energy shops created by former trader from Marc Richs... the guy who invented oil trading.

Glencore and Trafi - great if you like to do shady business in Eastern Europe! There's a reason they are private companies.

huh? what does being a public/private company have to do with trading acumen... so by your logic, it wasn't okay to buy/sell oil w/ j.aron until after Goldman went public in 1999?
