What are HR people looking for in the cover letter?

September 6th, 2002, 4:04 pm

Hello, everyoneI switched on the private messaging option at my profile. So I hope that this feature is enabled now.About proper English, I should admit that English is not my native language although I speak it fluently. So thanx for correcting my grammar. Actually, I would like to know, may my accent affect my capability to work as a trader? My English is completely understandable but the accent is also quite obvious.

Quote
Dear RowdyRoddyPiper,

Quote
with regard to proper grammar, you are correct, it does help, and we certainly don't want to reduce these forums to the level of what takes place in your average internet chat room. So with a sense of duty and in the interest of maintaining standards, let me point out some mistakes of yours...

Point well taken. That reminds me of another little thing that goes a long way. Read everything that you send at least twice out loud.
Quote
So with a sense of duty and in the interest of maintaining standards, let me point out some mistakes of yours...

It's considered bad form to start a sentence with so. So unless it's dialogue or first person narration I would recommend that you avoid using it. Messages on this forum could all be considered a form of dialogue. In that case we're back to square one. Clever Clever

"That which stimulates our senses but simultaneously does not elevate our morals is pernicious."As someone who is dyslexic and incapable of spelling in four languages (english, french, german, and latin (my koine greek is too bad to claim)...you may fire away at my poor grammer, spelling, hair-style, weight, funny lookin' children, and muddled thinking. i dnt care. and I advise that neither should u. But.....Quotef u cn rd ths mssg thn u cn gt a gd jb n mk lts of mny!"m1 = (Exp(b * Time) - Exp(b * TimeToAvgStart)) / (b * (Time - TimeToAvgStart))m2 = 2 * Exp((2 * b + Volatility ^ 2) * Time) / ((b + Volatility ^ 2) * (2 * b + Volatility ^ 2) * (Time - TimeToAvgStart) ^ 2) + 2 * Exp((2 * b + Volatility ^ 2) * TimeToAvgStart) / (b * (Time - TimeToAvgStart) ^ 2) * (1 / (2 * b + Volatility ^ 2) - Exp(b * (Time - TimeToAvgStart)) / (b + Volatility ^ 2))AdjMean = Log(m1) / TimeAdjVolatility = Sqr(Log(m2) / Time - 2 * bA)"How's that for elevated discourse? But I read it out loud twice and the other traders in the office thought I'd forgotten to take my medicine again. My favorite RowdyRoddyPiper movie is "Body Slam" where he was Quick Rick Roberts, or "The One and Only" (1978) (uncredited) as Leatherneck Joe Brady. Or Sam Hell in "Hell Comes to Frogtown." Much better than "They Live" where he just wore the X-ray specs and affected astonished looks. How well he spoke, yes indeed...his career went from light to light.
