Salary Question

December 4th, 2005, 8:34 pm

Hi,For someone with two masters from top-tier schools (one from a French Grande Ecole, and one from a top American Math Finance Program) plus almost one year experience in Exotic Credit Trading ,acquired while studying, in a very good shop in NY, what would be the average fixed salary (and bonus) as well as the grade for a similar position in London in one of the leaders in the Credit Derivatives Market. Thanks for your input.

Macfly,I would say between 120K to 150K is aorund what you should be looking at in terms of base salary. You should understand that most traders are paid along the same lines in regards to base salary, or at least that is what I have seen here in Asia, and the more important thing to be thinking about is upside potential. Hope that helps.TokyoT

Hope that helps.TokyoT120-150 is too agressive for fresh master's students. Asian salary structure is different and in many occasions are better than those in Ldn and NY. In NY & Ldn, 100K seems to be average for fresh PhD students and it is common to see master students get paid less than that (may be around 85K or less - it really up to the firm). However, if the guy has a good network during his part-time job with the traders in his previous firm, everything will be negotiable since his salary can be based on his past performance. This advantages vanish if he applies for the other firms and that 1 year PT exp is unlikely to be considered as FT exp. Hope that helps

I guess there is an enormous difference between the financial centra (NY,London,...) and other areas. In my country (Belgium) those 'big salaries' still need to be invented I think
