CQF delegates in NYC

December 31st, 2005, 2:02 pm

I am a very experienced programmer (ex-Microsoft) and ancient (1985) Cambridge math MA, part way thru a planned transition from systems software to a role closer to a lucrative finance business. I finagled the initial move to NYC about a year ago, and currently work on a sell-side equity OMS (Windows/C++/C#).I am currently considering applying to the 7City CQF for June distance learning, as the quickest and most economical way to get something concrete under my belt in the QuantFin arena. I would appreciate it if any graduates in the NYC area would PM me on their experiences during and after the program. Thanks in advance, and a Happy New Year to all.

1. Nope - beginning intensive remedial process now - hence the CQF application - targeting move into quant fin for spring '06. Though I have some interviews going on now w a few prop trading and cred derivs teams who I assume must be more desperate than the others. Mea culpa... Initial reading - Wilmott, Neftci, Hull, ++ later in the year.2. Yes. I worked on OS/2 during early days at Microsoft, porting OSI X.400/comms stack that became part of MS Exchange, until MS junked OS/2 for WinNT around '93. Idle interest, or some black ops modeling project needing talent on this venerable platform?

Initial reading - Wilmott, Neftci, Hull, ++ later in the year. The trick is to find out whether this is entry level quant development or the generic housekeeping IT common to all firms.I worked on OS/2 during early days at Microsoft. Idle interest, or some black ops modeling project needing talent on this venerable platform? There’s several very senior people who hire quant developers who worked on OS/2… It's a wamr fuzzy and shows that you've been doing hard stuff for a long time, so are smart, rather than a plodder who has exhausted available options. In particular having long time threading experience is growing in utility, and to the tutored eye, expeirience of them means you can think deeply about your code.I was @ Hursley Park, in the functional inquisition.
