so, after how long/ months of work esxperience is ideal to move to junior trader/structurer positionQuoteOriginally posted by: abcdI had an interview for a sales trader position which is for about 4 months. Will such a position help or hinder my progress. As I have temped through agencies quite a bit and am getting feedback that I have moved around a bit too much and my CV is not focused towards a specific role. Saying that these positions were while I was studying, I thought they would show my interest. Should I bother with the sales trader role, will it add to my problems or show some direction to trading

Looking for a trading job

Hi all,How about prop trading roles at a smaller firm/fund? Is that a good place to start? Will the person be able to get into other major IBs and/or hedge funds later? What is the difference between prop trading at a small firm vs. prop trading at major IB vs daytrading??To abcd: feel free to PM me. I might be able to give you some names that are hiring.

If you start at a smaller fund it is possible to move to a bank or other hedge funds. But if you are at a daytrading company I have heard it is difficult as they consider these places bucket shops. Nothing is impossible though so if you do really well it might be able to move into a less established bank and the work your way to a IB. Thats the general feedback I was given about daytrading companies. Also I have sent you a PM.

Any advice on my previous thread:I had an interview for a sales trader position which is for about 4 months. Will such a position help or hinder my progress. As I have temped through agencies quite a bit and am getting feedback that I have moved around a bit too much and my CV is not focused towards a specific role. Should I bother with the sales trader role, will it add to my problems or show some direction to trading. Also I am based in London if anyone has info on firms recruiting.

Nuclear winter? Many people temp in hopes to get a permanent job. And it usually is a long-term role. But there's usually a reason why they can't fill the job, like the guy in the next cubicle coughs blood.

It is a temporary job for the summer, after 4 months there is a possiblility to go perm. Problem is that the company is very small and not well known, I fear that if I work there long-term my options of working for a bank will be limited. Before you say better then no job. I am only considering it as I have a offer for a full-time role after the summer in another company. It is not a trading role but is a good job. So am seeing if can get a trading job before I start there. The sales trader role it is totally commission based which will take sometime before I can get a decent salary as will need to find my own clients and is the reason I will take the other role over it. As the company is a international name with better prospects and will only leave it if I get a Trader role or something which will realistically allow me to get into trading in the future.
