Securitization

Depending on the type of job, the role could be very specialized (such as quant) or it could be broad. e.g. there are securitization groups that just buy mortgages, securitize and sell them. On the other hand, banks have mortgage trading groups where they don't only securitize and sell, but also hedge against positions in mortgage books (hence trading). Moreover, trading MBS is kind of like trading fixed income structured products....All in all, it's certainly a good area to work in but exposure to markets and career potential depend on the kind of job you take and exposure of the MBS/ABS department itself to other groups in the bank.

Be more specific. What exactly is the role in "securitization"? At an MBS/ABS desk, there is a variety of roles that all involve securitization in some form. Are you talking about structuring bonds from collateral? Analyzing collateral? Originating collateral? Trading structured product?

Would a career in securitization in a big Insurance company be equally relevant as that in a bank( apart from the trading element)??
