How much is having a CFA worth? What types of positions need CFA? To be a quantitative hedge fund manager, is having a CFA over having a PhD in finance?

Scores don't expire per se, but if you want to do Levels 2 or 3, and it's been 7 years since you passed the most recent paper, then you're back to square one, and have to resit Level 1 again. I might have got the exact wording of this wrong - check the CFA handbook for the precise details....

I was sitting for Level III which was easier than expectedPaying for the charter which will cost 300 USD p.a. may not be interesting for me.I think about taking the FRM next, is there another kind of relevant exam for financial market/quant finance with self-study possibilities? The CQF is too costly for my perception

QuoteOriginally posted by: math9I was today at Level I. Questions easier than expected. Time defenitely not enough. The good thing with these exams is that you can go infinitely many times and get it one day.Well this assumes that you have enough 'capital' to take the losses and continue with the business of taking the exams.

Answering Level III essay questions seems like guessing all the way.Questions are quite open-ended and you'll never know for sure if you got it right.
