Anyone know anything about the reputation of Barclay's as a quant shop? Heard anything?

Heard anything? It's the "MacDonalds'" of quant shops?Erm, how is that? Cheap double burgers? Lots of trans fats? I have a couple of former coworker chums there who are outrageously happy with the place (Bar Gobal anyway). It looks a little compartmentalized and ponderous (they say you're not going to be a jack of all trades there), but it seems to be a model which works for them.

At some point, they will surely weed out some of their aggressive new hiring pool using massive layoffs that all giant coroporations use. Wall Street runs in cycles and it won't be long before the next down cycle. How is the industry going to absorb so many laid off people? How do quant skills tranfer back to other industries, like real world programming?
