CDO Structurer

March 29th, 2007, 11:45 am

Hi all,I'm currently working in a credit derivatives group as a software developer, but not a quant. I would like to transition to a non-IT position in the financial industry. I think I would be able to apply my knowledge of credit derivatives towards a structuring position. What skills are required to do this job? What are the day in to day out responsibilities? As I understand it, the structurer works with the sales people to come up with CDOs that suit the client's interests. Is that correct? Is there any interaction with traders? Can a structuring position be seen as an intermediate step towards trading? How will a sell-side structuring position differ from a buy side position? I have only a BS degree in Comp Eng, will that significantly hurt me?Any input would be appreciated.
